The Eventual Farmer [Our Products]
About Us
Who is this Eventual Farmer?
Both the brains and the brawn behind the Eventual Farmer, Keri Middaugh crafts her products with care and joy, from her home to yours. When she’s not crafting, parenting, or cooking, she can be found checking on her garden, checking out way too many books from the library, or checking out in front of a movie.
The Eventual Farmer is my hobby-gone-public and an extension of my sustainability efforts at home. It’s my tiny way of turning our culture away from consuming and back to a state of producing what we need. When my daughter started bringing a lunch to school last year, I noticed how much trash was being produced just by one child’s one meal. Trying to find a way to make her lunches trash-free, I needed a reusable ziploc bag option. This also coincided with trying to reduce our family’s trash and recycling, and I noticed that we were throwing away lots of cereal bags. Don’t they say that necessity is the mother of invention? I came across an idea of a reusable baggie and decided to try lining it with cereal bags, and that was the birth of the Sandwich Wrap. The Snack Pack came along a few months later, when I had trouble making the cut fruit and veggies stay nicely in the Sandwich Wrap. The Snack Pack works perfectly for loose or cut up foods.
The Laundry Soap came about in much the same way. It was troublesome for me to try to find my favorite brand of detergent on sale, with a coupon. So my frugal self decided to try to make some myself. Let me warn you, not all recipes are created equal, and it took a few tries to find one that got our clothes nice and clean. That became the Simple Laundry Soap that is packaged in 32 oz. plastic yogurt containers, wrapped simply in white butcher paper.
Most people love the December holidays, but I have increasingly become uneasy with them, mainly because of the excess and waste that is so popular in our culture. I decided that if I was going to enjoy the holidays, I needed to reinvent how my family celebrates them to be in line with my values. We now try to wrap gifts in repurposed paper or cloth, tied with colorful mesh produce bags or yarn. The Fabric Gift Bags are an extension of that and give a little ‘green’ flair to gift-giving. In fact, the Fabric Gift Bags are so charming, they could be the gift!
I recently added a product of a different type: a children’s book! It’s about a little girl who moves to the city of Detroit and misses her garden back home. Will planting a few veggies in a nearby vacant lot bring joy to this sweet child? Written, illustrated, and published in Michigan, My Detroit Garden is a smart gift for any young one in your life.
