Brines Farm [Our Products]
About Us
The Brines family has been authentically growing vegetables and fruits since 1980 and began selling at farmers markets in 2005 due to Shannon’s passion for slow food and demonstrating sustainable agriculture. Shannon is a research specialist/lecturer at the University of Michigan interested in agriculture, food systems, public health, and geography. He is also active in the local food scene, currently serving: on the HomeGrown Local Food Summit & Festival steering committees, as Slow Food Huron Valley leadership team vice‐chair, and as the City of Ann Arbor’s Public Market Advisory Commission vice‐chair, among other things.

Nothing but the best!
Our Practices
We use the term suggested by Maine farmer Eliot Coleman, “Authentic”, to describe our practices since we are not certified organic. More information regarding our practices can be found at our brines.org website. In addition to meticulous seed variety selection, crop rotation, companion planting and integrated pest management, we use a healthy compost soil as our main practice.
Highlights
Shannon was selected as a member of the US delegation to participate in Terra Madre 2008 in Turin, Italy: a world slow food meeting focused on increasing smallscale, traditional, and sustainable food production.
